The Platypus

I'm sure that you have heard the platypus and I think that is an interesting creature to talk about.

The Platypus or in Latin name Ornithorhynchus anatinus, is a mammal that lives in Australia. It's is a very strange mammal because it lay eggs and their physical characteristics are too different from normal mammal characteristics. It has a poisonous spur, a duck mouth, a beaver tail and otter feet.

So when the European naturalist first saw it they thought that it was a fraud and they tried to decompound the creature. If you visit the British Museum you will see this platypus with some cuts.

Certainly it was a difficult animal to classify because it seems to be a mixed creature, but finally scientists decided to classify it as a mammal because it has breasts to feed up the little ones.
